Gendering (In)Security: The Exclusionary Effects of Neo-Liberalism
Date: 1 July 2016 Time: 13:30 PM
Finishes: 2 July 2016 Time: 11:00 AM
Venue: University of Hull
Room: Lecture Room 8, Wilberforce Building
Type of Event: SOAS/ Hull joint Workshop
This two-day workshop aims to posit gender at the centre of cutting-edge international, local, and global developments by bringing together scholars exploring a range of topics engaged with the contemporary and evolving context of security and insecurity. Without overstating the case of ‘feminist foundationalism’ , this workshop will bring together scholars working on and around the area of gender and (in)security. While the neo-liberal turn provides the backdrop to our interest in a gender analysis of (in)security, the papers selected for the workshop invoke gender analysis of the neo-liberal turn in highlighting how women and others left ‘outside’ processes of accumulation are implicit in the contours of emerging economic, social and political formations.
